Samsung Tizen & LG webOS Smart TVs
IPTV on Samsung and LG Smart TVs — SmartSTB+ Setup
Samsung Tizen and LG webOS televisions cannot sideload Android apps, so IPTV runs through a store-approved MAC-based player instead. SmartSTB+ (and the older Smart STB) are the two options that appear in the Canadian app stores, and both work the same way: the app shows a virtual MAC address, we register that MAC against your portal, and the channel list appears.
Before you start
Check which app your model offers. Newer Samsung and LG panels list SmartSTB+; older models still show Smart STB. Install whichever is available — do not install both.
The app itself is an independent third-party product with its own trial period and its own renewal fee, billed by the app developer.
Wired Ethernet is strongly preferred on Smart TVs. Built-in TV Wi-Fi radios are usually the weakest part of the set and are the most common cause of stuttering during live sports.
Step-by-step: Samsung Tizen & LG webOS Smart TVs
Step 1.Open your TV's app store
On Samsung, open Apps from the Smart Hub. On LG, open the LG Content Store from the home bar.
Step 2.Install the player
Search for 'SmartSTB+' and install it. If your model does not list it, search 'Smart STB' and install that instead.
Step 3.Copy your virtual MAC address
Launch the app. The first screen displays a virtual MAC address in the format 00:1A:79:XX:XX:XX. Photograph it or write it down exactly.
Step 4.Send us the MAC on WhatsApp
Message the MAC address to 416-989-3108. We register it against your portal, usually within minutes during support hours.
Step 5.Reload the app
Close and reopen the app. It now pulls your portal automatically — live channels, VOD and the EPG appear without typing a URL.
Step 6.Set picture and audio
On the TV, set Picture Mode to Movie or Filmmaker for accurate colour, and disable motion smoothing so live sports look natural rather than soap-opera fast.
Tips that make a real difference
- Pin the app to the first position on the Samsung Smart Hub bar or the LG launcher for one-click access.
- If your TV supports it, enable HDMI-CEC so a soundbar powers on with the app.
- Keep the MAC address saved somewhere — factory resetting the TV generates a new one and requires re-registration.
Troubleshooting
App shows 'portal not found'
The MAC has not been registered yet, or a different MAC was sent. Re-send the exact MAC shown on the app's first screen.
App trial expired
The SmartSTB+ / Smart STB licence is billed by the app developer, separate from your IPTV subscription. Renew it inside the app.
Channels load slowly on an older TV
Older Tizen and webOS panels have limited memory. A $60 Android TV box or Firestick will feel dramatically faster while using the same subscription.
Third-party app disclaimer: SmartSTB+ and Smart STB are independent third-party applications. Their app subscription, activation fees and renewals are owned and billed by the app developer, separate from your IPTV subscription with us. The customer is responsible for those third-party charges.
Samsung Tizen & LG webOS Smart TVs IPTV questions
Is SmartSTB+ included with my subscription?
No. SmartSTB+ and Smart STB are independent third-party apps. Their activation and renewal fees are owned and billed by the app developer, and the customer is responsible for those charges.
Will this work on any Samsung or LG TV?
Any Samsung Tizen or LG webOS model that lists the app in its store. Very old models, and Android-based TVs from other brands, use different apps.
Do I need a separate box?
No, but a Formuler or Android box gives a faster interface and better 4K handling on older televisions.
